Alexander Stubbs is an Artist-Organiser investigating the many ways in
which we communicate with each other.
He is interested in how words, images, sounds, and archives come together as interrogative objects manifesting as speculative storytelling. He uses text, performance, voice, film, broadcast and research to create methodologies and ways of working which take communication further than the page.
Alex often works with other people to explore the potential of togetherness. He organises study groups, gatherings, walks, film screenings, and workshops, creating spaces for things to happen in, with a focus on non-directional learning.
He currently co-directs the public intervention series I will meet you here (2025-) and TYPELOOPS (2024-), a performance-operation alongside artist The Aimless Archive. He works directly with artists through the curatorial project CONTAINER WORKS (2026-). He is currently working on a new body of work that explores text, radio broadcasts, and drawings.
Alex previously self-directed the publishing project SPECTATE(2024-25), and the peer-learning project Mental Bookshelves (2025-), and was a lead artist on the intergenerational learning programme Virtual Ecologies(2024-25).
He graduated with an MA in Art History from University of Nottingham and has previously held curatorial roles at Humber Street Gallery, where he worked with early-career artists, co-programmed learning and artist residencies, and explored new ways of developing artist-organisation support.
He was an artist on Wysing Art Centre’s Syllabus VIII programme and is deeply concerned with the social politics of artist labour.
